There is a nasty virus that is appearing on computers every where again. The clock might be ticking on yours as we speak. It starts as a helpful pop up that tells you that your hard drive is infected with multiple virus's. It then offers to solve all of your problems if you purchase their software to remove it. DO NOT FALL FOR THIS SCAM! First of all they are not selling software - they are simply collecting your credit card information, which they will use immediately after you complete your transaction. This one is particularly aggressive as you can not simply delete it. Also, when you attempt to enter the task manager to stop the process it really gets aggressive and attacks even more repeatedly. The only way to get rid of this one is to re-boot, and before the virus can re-load, you have to ctrl-alt-del to get to your task manager. As soon as you are there, you'll find one new file that is a series of random numbers - something like 68453290.exe. Stop this process and at least you now have control of your computer. You'll have to delete a folder in \documents and settings\users\applications\security tool. You can also run a scan on your c: drive and delete all folders, and their contents named "security tool". Also delete it from your start-up menu. Lastly. you'll have to go to regedit and delete the registry keys named HKEY_CURRENT_USERS\software\Security Tool and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\current version\uninstall\Security Tool. Not all versions of windows will have the HKEY registry entries. Good luck with this, you'll find it aggressive and aggravating. If you can't beat this one and you are in our area, give us a call, we'll come out and remove it for you.
